On Friday last we celebrated Grandparents’ Day here at Scoil Bhríde. The children from 5th and 6th class (under careful instruction from Helena and Tríona) were busy for days beforehand making St. Brigid’s Crosses for distribution on the day.
Fr. Victor celebrated mass in the church at 11am and the children participated enthusiastically in the ceremony. Following mass the grandparents adjourned to the community centre where the parents association served refreshments including a smorgasbord of home baked goodies.
The children from 3rd to 6th class then joined the grandparents in the hall and entertained them with a variety show – music, song, dance, poetry and story-telling.
The grandparents then visited their grand children in class where they were shown all kinds of projects and art work by the enthusiastic pupils.
Everyone agreed it was a wonderful day nurturing the special bond that exists between children and their grand parents
